The Royal Oak

A group of villagers in Hail Weston have clubbed together to buy the Royal Oak – our historic local pub that closed its doors for business over five years ago. They now plan to refurbish the bar, snug, kitchen and dining area of the Grade-II listed thatched pub ready to reopen this spring.

The 18th Century Royal Oak pub served as a social centre of Hail Weston life for generations but was sold by the Charles Wells Pub Company in November 2011 and closed as a pub on January 1st 2012. There followed a long campaign by the Hail Weston Community Pub Society to save The Royal Oak from redevelopment. This led to it being declared an Asset of Community Value in 2013 which stopped it being sold as anything but a working pub.

The eight villagers involved in the purchase have formed the Hail Weston Pub Company Ltd and will be hiring a manager to run the Royal Oak, with an emphasis on creating a friendly, local and independent country pub.

If you would like to follow the progress of the refurbishment and hear more about future plans on openings, menus, events and much more then please sign up for the Royal Oak newsletter.

Equally, if you fancy lending a hand in any capacity – from helping redecorate the place to more specific tasks involving building, carpentry, electrics or plumbing – please email or call Reuben on 07966 148504.

The group will be posting lots of updates on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so please ‘like’ and follow their progress there too.

We hope villagers will be able to visit The Royal Oak in the very near future to eat, drink and meet friends in their local pub.
