25 October 2021, will see the start of the long-awaited demand response bus service trial in the western parts of Huntingdonshire.
Following on from the consultation sessions with county, district, and parish councillors, which some of you joined back in July, we felt it was important that we shared with you all how the long-awaited demand response bus service trial in the western parts of Huntingdonshire is progressing.
It’s very much all systems go!
Wednesday (6 October) saw the start of a month’s worth of awareness activities in readiness for the trial’s go live date at the end of October. The Market Square in St Neots was the location where Dr Nik Johnson, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, hosted a preview event with local media to unveil this exciting new service – ting
Over the next two weeks, and in readiness for you and your residents to start using the new service, we’d like to share a copy of the ting information pack and posters which we hope you will distribute across your parish. Please can we ask you to email us with your parish clerk’s mailing address or anyone else that you think suitable to receive this information.
We have a couple of drop-in events planned across the trial area in the next few weeks, so we would encourage you to keep an eye out for any information promoting ting ahead of the go live date of 25 October.
A reminder of what ting is and where it will operate.
Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority is trialling a new demand responsive transport service called ting – it’s an exciting, new way of operating bus services. Instead of running to fixed timetables, you can now book trips across the western part of Huntingdonshire using the ting trips app, or the booking line, when you need them!
Once you’ve booked your journey, it will tell you how long until your bus arrives and where it will meet you so you can hop on board. You can track it live too! The clever technology behind ting will join up several people’s needs and combine it into one trip, making sure you all get where you need to be.
The trial will last for six months, and it will complement the current bus services already running in the area. ting will be a great way to provide a travel solution for our more rural areas across the region. You can head over to www.ting-trips.co.uk for all the information and to take a look at the operating area. There are also some additional key destinations that ting will take you to: Cambourne Morrisons, Thrapston Industrial Estate, Huntingdon Town Centre, Huntingdon Rail Station and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.
With a flat fare of just £2 for any journey, it’s great value for money, and there’s also a £1 add on ticket which you can buy on ting to make onward journeys to places like Cambridge and St Ives.
We want to make sure as many people as possible get to know about ting so we can all give it the very best start. This is a service that belongs to us all, and we hope that it’ll become a key part of our communities. ting will run from 7.00am until 7.00pm Monday to Friday, and 8.00am until 4.00pm on Saturdays.
The ting trips app will be available to download from Apple and android stores from Monday 25 October.
